Under Construction

From this website students and parents will have access to my monthly calendar, which I try and update every week so you will know what is being taught in the classroom as well as what the weekly homework assignments are.  The calendar is a general guideline and may change from month to month depending on what we are doing in the classroom.

The US/World History and Geography syllabus follows the standards posted by Core Curriculum.  Students in the 7/8 grades are combined for social studies and will therefore follow a two year curriculum.  Although students from these two grades will be in the same class, the skills that are taught typically at a High School level will be introduced in my history class.  Students will learn the terminology, techniques, and skills used in Advanced Placement courses (see AP under the Geography/History link).  AP strategies are excellent  learning strategies, which develop critical thinking skills and independent thinking no matter what level of learning the student is at.  In some schools around the nation AP strategies are introduced to 4th graders because they are made up of excellent learning strategies.

This website is divided into two main sections; each of these sections are then divided into many different subsections.   The Geography/History section of the website is  divided into two sections: World Geography, which consists of the 5 Themes of Geography and a map section.   The history section is based on chronological and thematic sections, but each category has a geography theme to it and each topic usually links the past to the present.

The Arabic section of the website is for a Middle East language and culture class I hope will be offered by White Pine Charter School as an elective class sometime in the near future.  This section is broken down into stereotypes, history, culture, language, and resources.
